When the Channel Tunnel is fully operational, freight carrying capacity on short-sea routes will be increased by nearly a third, it says. The report, published by Kent County Council in collaboration with the ferry companies and Eurotunnel. says: "There will be surplus capacity for a while."

Although Eurotunnel believes it will capture around half of the total passenger and freight traffic, the report says that the Tunnel's share will be reduced to around 35% of the market.
