IN my piece on February 2 saying that "the responsibilities of existing institutions for raising standards in the engineering profession must not be transferred to a national engineering authority", a line of clarification was left out.
The formation of such an authority is suggested in the Finniston Report. And I suggested that Gordon Dawson, president of IMechE, would be supported in this view by the IRTE.
