Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

WE WERE very interested to read in Commercial Motor (January 26, p49) about the ten-year-old Bedford CF van, which is on a ten-week tour round Norway. We were also very pleased to read that this van has covered 112,000 miies on its original engine.

Well, we too can boast a vintage (1970) Bedford CF 35 cwt chassis/cab, fitted with a Pem 600 Luton body. This vehicle has now covered 187,000 miles since new, and has also covered 127,000 miles on a 2.3 litre Vauxhall engine fitted with a big Blydenstein head and Lumenition electronic ignition system.

Both of these items really do help both the performance and the economy of the vehicle. For around £100, the Blydenstein head has improved fuel consumption from around 20mpg to over 25mpg, which at today's fuel prices has surely got to be looked into by other petrol

engined Bedford CF owners.

Our vehicle will be ten years old in March and is still running like new; its stablemate, an Mreg CF has clocked up 142,000 miles since new, and covered 125,000 miles on its first engine, which in some cases is even better than a diesel engine.

Who said that vans weren't built to last?
