PRODUCTION of commercial vehicles in1979 was more than 23,000 up on 1978 according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

Production figures for the year rose from 384,518 in 1978 to 408,060 in 1979, while weekly average production increased from 7394 to 7847.

Due mainly to the 1978 strike, Ford's weekly average output increased from 2048 to 3216 while Leyland vehicles jumped from 545 to 580. per week.

Provisional figures show that 35,200 commercials were built in January.
