GODFREY MESSERVY will succeed chairman Sir Bernard Scott as executive chairman at Lucas Industries Ltd.
Mr Messervy, who joined the Lucas Organisation in 1 949, will remain group managing director, a post he has held since 1974.
Sir Bernard has been with the company for 48 years and the board intends to invite him to rejoin the company as a nonexecutive director.
David Howell, Secretary of State for Energy, has named Professor Sir Hermann Bondi as chairman of The Advisory Council on Energy Conservation. He is presently the chief scientist at the department and
takes over from Professor Sir William Hawthorne who has been chairman of the council since its inception.
National Freight Corporation special adviser, Harold Osborn, has agreed to continue to serve on the council.
Peter Scott, a director of Sir Robert McAlpine and Sons Ltd,
has become a part-time member of the board of the National Freight Corporation.

ton. He succeeds Lawrence Oak who retires shortly. He started his career as an apprentice with English Electric at Vulcan Works, Earlestorn, and was with the Wigan transport
undertaking before moving to Staffordshire.
Ron Elliott moves to director of European Business Development for the Perkins Engines Group after serving as the Group's director of market supply, In his new position, Mr Elliott assumes responsibility for the activities of Perkins subsidiary companies in France, Germany and Italy. He succeeds Peter Barton who was recently named director UK farm machinery, sales and service, Massey Ferguson UK Ltd.
Joe Wright retires as development director of Perkins Engines Ltd, where he dealt with international manufacturing customers. He was with the company for 34 years.

Mr Birch trained with Leyla in 1 922 and later joined t family business, Birch Bros Li where he became managil director and, in 1949, chairm until the closure of the Bir group in 1971.
