Emigrants whose removals contractors go bankrupt before they have delivered the furniture overseas are protected by a new scheme officially launched by the British Association of Removers on Tuesday.
If a BAR overseas group member fails to fulfill his con tract his customers will be reimbursed for freight charges paid in advance. The scheme is underwritten by Credit and Guarantee Insurance Co Ltd.
Cash reimbursement will be made up to the full value of the advance payment plus 25 per cent for additional expenses, or the goods will be shipped at the insurers' expense.
