By far the youngest speaker I can remember in the past 15 years at a North-western section dinner, Ian Morgan, who is Ribble's Eastern area manager at Burnley, was appropriately modest among a distinguished gathering. Giving a nod in the direction of experience, he recalled how, as a new depot superintendent, he stopped a bus driven by a veteran "smoking" a pipe.
"I'm not smoking," said the driver.
"Then what are you doing with a pipe in your mouth?" asked Ian.
"I have shoes on my feet but I'm not walking," replied the driver.
