Blockaded farmers who had to use their own tractors and trailers to trundle beet long distances to sugar factories might have welcomed the new Trantor launched by W. H. S. Taylor Engineering Developments Ltd, Stockport_ Designed by Stuart Taylor, it is a cross between a lorry and a tractor and its Perkins 4.236 diesel engine is said to give a speed of 60mph. It is the result of a two-year study of the agricultural industry in which he found that three-quarters of the work done by most farm tractors was on transport. The Trantor is, however, claimed to be just as much at home on the land as on the road.
