A Wide Range of Vehicles, Tractors and Appliances for General, Municipal and Other Uses

SPECIAL prominence at the Ford Exhibition, at the City Hall, Deansgate, Manchester, is being given to vehicles designed to meet recent legislation, many robust products coming within the £30 tax and 30 m.p.h. limit being . available. This extensive display, organized by the Ford Motor Co., Ltd., opened on Monday last, and closes to-morrow, the hours being 10 a.m.-10 p.m. and the cost of admission is. A free_ cinema show demonstrates the building and test of Ford products.

The exhibition primarily illustrates the wide range of Ford commercial vehicles from the 5-cwt. van, incorporating the 8 h.p. chassis, to the Fordson 2-tonner and the FordsonSussex and Surrey six-wheelers. In addition, however, there are many examples of special-purpose bodywork.

The Only Public-service Vehicle in the Show.

-Harold J: Willett, Ltd., Colchester, shows the only public service vehicle in the exhibition, this being a 20-seater de luxe coach with sliding roof and having a "VS " engine. Special care has been given to the weatherproofing of the sliding head, and ample drainage is provided, whilst either real leather or leather and moquette may be employed for the upholstery. The price is 4605.

On the municipal side, there is a specially adapted 1-ton chassis, with extra springing, carrying an ambulance body. This design, known as the Special F, is a product of Herbert Lomas, Ltd., City Road, Manchester, which concern's activities in am

balance construction, in conjunction with the Ford company, are well known. The particular model, with wood-grain finish and two-stretcher equipment, costs 4404.

Another municipal product is a fireengine by Simonis, Ltd. Mounted on a Fordson 2-ton chassis, this outfit has seating for eight men and, with a 250gallon self-priming turbine pump, is priced at £647.

One of the chief Ford dealers in, the Manchester area, H. E. Nunn and Co., Ltd., has provided a new and wellthought-out tipper for builders' and similar uses. Equipped with handoperated hydraulic tipping gear by Bromilow and Edwards, Ltd., it is for one-man control and is stated to deal satisfactorily with loads up to 4 tons.

A Fordson short-wheelbase chassis is used as a basis, and the steel-lined bodywork is mounted at four points, with positive locking devices. The-inside body dimensions are 7 ft. 10 ins. by 6 ft., with 18-in, sides, these having the lower edges flanged so that if Used for loads, such as mortar, sand, etc., leakage is unlikely to occur. The three-seater cab has a compartment for books and papers needed by the driver, whilst twin rear windows give ample light and permit a full view of the load. In grey, the cost is £250, and the tax is £25.

A standard long-wheelbase chassis converted to forward-control makes possible the 15-ft. platform of the lorry shown by Manchester Garages, Ltd., this also having a roomy cab.

For the public works contractor's and similar use, H. and J. Quick, Ltd., also presents an hydraulic tipper, this being a double-drive six-wheeler on a Fordson-Sussex chassis and providing a loading space 12 ft. by 6 ft. 6 ins. It is stated to have dealt specially successfully with heavy loads on rough ground, and for this purpose a prominent local contractor has used them to replace steamers.

An articulated six-wheeler is to be found on the section occupied by the Chaseside Engineering Co., Enfield. The tractor unit comprises a Fordson 2-ton chassis and cab, working in con junction with a 20-ft. trailer. This company also shows the Chaseside Hi-lift shovel, a digger extensively used at quarries, gravel pits, etc., the outfit being carried and operated by the Fords= tractor.

Fordson Tractors for Agriculture and Industry.

The Fordson tractor is shown in its usual agricultural and industrial forms, whilst there is also a specimen of the Muir-Hill product (E. Boyden and Co., Ltd., Old Trafford) in the shape of a ripper for breaking up the surface of hard ground or grassland before using the scraper for surface excavation.

Paintwork in attractive modern designs enhances the appearance of vans shown on the stand of Multiplex Van Displays, Ltd.

So that local users shall have -the opportunity of testing vehicles on roads in the district where difficult conditions of working are experienced, two demonstration vehicles are provided. One is a Fordson-Surrey six-wheeler and the other a Fordson 2-tonner.
