Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Sews contributions are invited : payment will be made on publication.

The prolonged discussion which has been taking place for some time past in Bath, with regard to taxicab regulations, is likely at last to come to an end. The Local GovernmentBoard has now confirmed the by-laws which have been drawn up by the Council,

In Scarborough.

A sub-committee of the Hackney Carriage Committee of Scarborough has under consideration the subject of the granting of licences for taxicabs, and it is understood that an application has reached this body for a preliminary licence for one cab.

A Recent Registration.

Grissens Taxi-Cab Co., Ltd., with an authorized capital of £10,000 in tl shares (5,000 preference), and with its office at 7, Canterbury Terrace, tiutherland Avenue, Paddington, W. to carry on -the business of taxicab proprietors, motorcar and taxicab repairers, garage proprietors, etc.

For the Coronation.

A correspondent suggests to us that the Motorcab Proprietors Association slued net delay to obtain assurances from the Commissioner of Police that facilities will he afforded for the carrying on of motoreab traffic during the period of the coming Coronation and other Sate functions in London. Certain streets will, of course, be closed for a number of hours, and drivers who have to set down fares inside a certain area are liable to be prevented from moving away afterwards, unless special arrangements are made by the

police in this respect. It may be remembered deft cabs can " set down " at Ascot, but they cannot ply for hire there, and there are many similar instances of such restrictions.

Hard Times.

A charge, which is stated to be without precedent, was preferred against a. hansom cab-driver one day last week. It was stated that he had been begging during his employment. A plain-clothes police officer saw the driver, who was aged 69, frequently address ladies from his position in the driver's seat of a hansom cab, and ask them for assistance for his invalid wife and youtig ehildren. He was arrested, and I7s. was found in his possession. Evidence was given that his tale of poverty had been investigated and was found to be correct, and under the circumstances Mr. Horace Smith bound him over to be of good vii heir ter six months.

Manchester Awakening.

There is hope for Manchester yet. The Watch Committee of the Manchester Corporation is at last actually consiJering the drafting of new regulations for the control of the taxicab traffic in that city. It will be remembered that. the development of the motorcah industry in Manchester has been very-seriously hindered by the restrictive methods that have been adopted by the Watch Committee in dealing with hackney-carriage licences, etc. The taximeter has been rendered useless as a fare-registering machine, owing to the fact that hitherto pas seugers could not hire a cab on a combined time-and-distance charge. It is hoped now that Manchester will de-. chic to come into line with every other.great city in the country.

After-Theatre Cabs.

The subject of the dearth of taxicabs in the West End after theatre hours is again being ventilated in the columns of the daily Press. It will be remembered that we gave considerable consideration to this problem in. the early part of last summer.

'Ware Lewisham.

We understand that a police trap, which has been specially arranged for taxicab and other similar service, is in full operation for two measured furlongs in High Street, Lewisham, on the Sevenoaks Road, near the tram terminus. Operations extend from 11.30 p.m. until about 1.30 a.m., signalling being effected by means of flashlights.

Napiers in Canada.

We reproduce on this page a fine photograph showing a number of Napier taxicabs, outside the magnificent City Hall of Toronto. These English vehicles have been constructed with special ground clearance, in orderto enable them to run in the Canadian city during the whole of the winters even though deep snow covers theroads. We understand that these Colonial Napiers are giving great satisfaction in Australia, India and. Siam,. as well as in many other overseas. countries.
