Former TAL Logistics staff take tribunal action

FORMER STAFF AT collapsed haulage operatorTAL Logistics Group have started employment tribunal proceedings against the firm and some of its subsidiaries, claiming they were not consulted before being made redundant in April.

The news is contained in the company's administrator's progress report, recently filed at Companies House, and shows that staff at both Gallacher Bros (Haulage) and TAL Freeway have commenced tribunal actions.

TAL and its various subsidiaries — Gallacher Bms, TAL Freeway, TAL Eurospecial, Phillips (Seahouses) and TAL Galaxy — collapsed into administration in April this year. Staff from Grant Thornton were appointed to the various group companies.

The administrators had estimated that the companies owed a total of around £6m: unsecured creditors £2.4m, secured creditors £1.13m and Barclays Bank £2.59m.

Initial estimates had suggested that they would be able to recover around £900,000 through the sale of vehicles and property. However, the administrators say they have raised /790,776. The bulk of the difference is accounted for by £131000 of directors' loans at TAL Logistics Group, which the administrator's report notes: "[The directors] have advised that they believe the loan accounts were repaid prior to my appointment by dividends that were not reflected appropriately in the company's books and records."
