Thanks to more flexibility n the championship rules, the new Caddy is able to race without the side windows initially re:lured to make the first van fit the Motor Sports Association's rules which ban commercial vehicles. The new Caddy retains most of its steel bodyshell effectively based on the Mk5 Golf.

Inside, the van is fully equipped with the best safety equipment, including the latest Recaro head and neck support ng racing seat and a fully plumbed-in fire extinguisher. The full roll cage gives maximum protection combined with generous crumple zones. The engine is based on the latest 2.0-litre 16 valve TDI, uprated to produce 230hp and 470Nm of torque, and dnving through the normal WV six-speed gearbox. Underneath, the biggest change to the chassis is the nocompromise rear suspension, a five-link beam axle inspired by the Ford Escort Mk1 works rally cars.
