Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DECISION was deferred by the Yorkshire Licensing Authority on an application by' Mr. C. G. Littlewood, of Sheffield, for permission to operate 48 more journeys to Torquay, to extend the period of operation to include the first two weeks in October, and to pick up and set down at Drortfield and Chesterfield.

Yorkshire Pool Services, Associated Motorways, Ltd.,and British Railways, objected.

Mr. 1. Goss, for Mr. Littlewood, said that last sutnmer, excluding Sheffield holidays, he had had to refuse 487 would-be passengers. He wished to run the extra journeys as required, rather than on specific dates.

Torquay Corporation were supporting the application and, said Mr. Goss, this was a splendid opportunity to encourage people to stagger their holidays.

The railways contended that if the demand claimed by the applicant existed, they should provide for it.

Yorkshire Pool Services agreed that the demand existed, but their recent application for additional facilities had been refused.

Mr. Goss submitted that the recent Yorkshire Pool v. Wallace Arnold Tours appeal decision was that the ohjectors must operate over the whole route. This did not apply to the Pool iii this case; they operated only from Sheffield to Birmingham, another company running from Birmingham to Torquay.

TRIPLEX CAPITAL INCREASE QTOCKHOLDERS of the Triplex Safety Glass Co., Ltd., are to be asked to authorize an increase in capital to enable the company to obtain complete control of Triplex (Northern), Ltd., at all extraordinary general meeting in London on December 30.

It is proposed to increase the authorized capital of the Triplex Safety Glass Co., Ltd., from 1830,000 to £1,022,771. Pilkington Bros., Ltd., have a major interest in Triplex (Northern), Ltd. If the resolution is passed, Triplex (Northern), Ltd., will become a wholly owned subsidiary of the Triplex Safety Glass Co., Ltd. Pilkington, however, will have a substantial financial interest in Triplex, and will be represented on the board by Sir Harry Pilkington and Mr. Arthur Pilkington.

LUKEWARM SAFETY

TOO many managements were lukewarm in the cause of accident prevention, and the workers' organizations were not always enthusiastic. Only lip service was paid to safety, while at the same time there was no belief that it was either necessary or likely to bring about productive results.

This indictment is contained in the 1954 report of the Chief Inspector of :=actories (Stationery Office, 8s.).
