• Grandfather rights for drivers of large buses which are not carrying fare-paying passengers are to continue, the Minister for Roads and Traffic, Christopher Chope, has said.
Original proposals for changes in PSV driver licensing recommended that experienced PSV drivers who were not driving for hire and reward would be required to take a new driving test.
But the proposals were opposed by charity and trade organisations, including the Freight Transport Association, and the minister has conceded a new test will not be necessary if the driver can prove his experience and meet health requirements.
