• A narrow majority of drivers at Go-Ahead Northern voted in a secret ballot to accept local pay and conditions changes in a bid to avoid the 350 job cuts threatened by the firm in May (CM 31 May-6 June).
The vote follows the decision by the South Shields depot to clinch a local deal.
Terry Hammond of the Transport & General Workers' Union says: "Although it is not a happy situation because some drivers will be worse off, it couldn't be helped because we had to minimise redundancies."
