Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Midlands-based parcels company Panic Link is looking for a further 40 franchises to complete its nationwide network — and it has stressed it is prepared to reduce its franchise fee for ex-Transam employees.

Panic Link managing director Eric Norman, who read of Transam's demise in last week's Commercial Motor, says he is willing to offer former Trans.= franchisees "a substantial credit against the money they lost at Transam".

He is scathing about the meteoric rise of certain parcels businesses: "Some of these companies start up on a wing and a prayer and 12 months later crash into oblivion. It doesn't do our industry any good at all."

Panic Link, which currently operates 114 parcels franch

ises, has vacancies for Operators throughout the UK. "We want dedicated people with a degree of management ability to take up the slack on some areas. We do a significant number of deliveries and collections in an area — about 60-90 a day — which might be on a bigger scale than some people are used to." The company's franchise fee varies between 220,000 and 250,000 depending on the area. "But applicants need significant working capital, which is more important than the franchise fee," points out Norman. He has already had one speculative enquiry from an ex-Transam operator who is looking for work.
