• BRS has completed a 13.8m vehicle replacement programme for its rental fleet — the majority of which will go to the Midlands region.
"The Midlands had not had the same level of investment as other areas," says rental director Phil Chapman, who does not want to keep his vehicles more than three years.
Chapman admits business is difficult, "but we have to continue to invest. Rental is a long-term cyclical product and we don't want the economy to pick up and find ourselves with a fleet that's five years old."
BRS has gradually reduced its total rental fleet by about 1,000 vehicles to its current level of just over 2,500.
