AUSTIN ROVER VANS

IN A 3% overall price rise on Austin Rover Metro and Maestro vans, will come into effect from August 18, although customers may still be able to purchase dealer stocks at old prices after that date.

The increases, which apply to all Austin Rover vehicles except the new Rover 800 series, are due to the cost of fitting rear seat belts and dim/dip lighting, som to be required by law.

Metro and Maestro vans, although not needing the facility of rear seat belts, are nevertheless being increased in price, by as much as 3.5% in some cases.

Iveco and Ford truck and van prices rise this week.

Short wheelbase Transits. rise by 2.9% on average. Escort and Fiesta vans rise by 3% on average.

Prices of Cargo range models will increase by an average of 4% while Ivecobuilt products will rise by an average of 4.2%.

Director, Commercial Operations, Alan B Fox, says the price increases are necessary to cover costs whicl: were already in the pipeline.

USED UNITS

• Demand for used, late model tractive units up to three or four years old is strong, according to Proctor & Nolan, the publishers of the CAP Red Book guide to used commercial vehicle prices.

Particularly sought-after are sleeper cab models in good condition "with reasonably sensible odometer readings."

Adds Proctor & Nolan: "Older model tractor units es pecially day cab versions or long-outdated models, are really proving hard work these days, probably due to the fact that the parts export market is fairly quiet and the associated scrap market appears to be in one of its frustratingly traditional lows."
