• The Turkish Government plans to build 3,0001un (1,900 miles) of motorway by the year 2000. There is certainly a need for this as there are not even 100km (62 miles) of motorway at the moment despite the vast distances across the country — over 1,700km (1,050 miles) between the Bulgarian border and the USSR and 1,000km (620 miles) between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean. Foreign contractors have been invited to send in tenders. VerkehrsRundschau, July 12.
