LONDON TRANSPORT'S "caretaker" chairman for the

next six to 12 months will be Sir Peter Masefield, a part-time LT board member and deputy chairman of British Caledonian Airways. He succeeds Ralph Bennett who was dismissed last month.

Contrary to CM August 2, London Transport board member Bill Maxwell is to remain a member of the LT executive, and he will become chairman of consultancy organisation LT International.

At National Freight Corporation headquarters, the new post of director of adminstration has been filled by technical and overseas affairs director Ken Cook. He will be responsible for administrative and technical services, and centralised activities in the areas of engineering and purchasing. His overseas responsibilities have been taken over by National Freight Corporation (International) Ltd managing director Ted Wall who has joined the executive committee.

National Carriers Eastern Region contract services manager John Blaylock has been promoted to become marketing and sales manager in the region. The new post widens his activities to

take in all of the company's product range.

The new managing director of Lex Service company Carpet Express is Brian Martin, who was previously a divisional manager with associate company Wilkinson Transport. Mr Martin, who will be responsible for the specialised transport of carpets throughout the United Kingdom and Ireland, was team leader of the winning team in

the British Institute of Management's 1976 national management competition.

National Freight special traffics company Tankfreight has made Edward Facey general manager of its 40-vehicles Chepstow branch. Much of his previous career was spent with the Transport Development Group.

John McLellan moves on October 1 to become Warrington Borough Council's assistant transport manager (engineering) in place of Frank Storey who is taking over as Tayside Regional Council's chief engineer. Mr McLellan was previously with Hyndburn Borough Transport Department.

Former road haulier Ron Lilley has been appointed executive officer for the Road Haulage Association's West Midlands area, He was previously sub-area secretary for West Bromwich, Walsall and Cannock.

Stanley Burgess has left the

National Association of Warehouse Keepers to establish his own consultancy business. He has not yet been replaced as secretary, but will continue to be founder secretary of the International Federation of Public Warehousing Associations.

Obituary

We record with regret the death of Donald Redfearn at 54. Mr Redfearn, who was a Doncaster-based haulage contractor, died in an accident.
