Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

We read with concern on page 15 of your July 12 issue of a six weeks' wait for David Brown gearbox spares as reported at a recent Transport Association meeting.

This particular complaint concerning parts available has been fully investigated and the facts which emerge are that stocks of the two thrust washers in question were available in quantity at the vehicle manufacturer's service centre and also in our own parts department.

This is unfortunately a situation which occurs from time to time and arose in this instance through lack of contact with either the manufacturer or David Brown.

At our works in Huddersfield we have established a large parts department and whilst admitting that shortages of some items have occurred over the past few months, due to exceptional circumstances, supplies of all parts are normally available. Further, we have established procedures with vehicle manufacturers to deal with VOR situations and if these procedures are followed by distributors there is usually no need for any vehicle to wait more than a day or two for David Brown gearbox parts.

We would remind operators unable to obtain parts for David Brown gearboxes quicidy to contact their distributors and insist that the VOR procedures are used.
