THE London Philharmonic Orchestra took delivery yesterday of a new van for carrying its musical instruments and five custodians when on European tour. The van is built on a MercedesBenz OF 1313 bus chassis, and is powered by the OM 352 engine.
The body, constructed of aluminium based three-ply Plymax to avoid heat distortion, was built by Charterway Coachcraft Ltd. It is fitted with a five man crew cab and two bunk beds. Access to the body is through a rear up and over door, and tailgate.
In order to keep instruments at a constant temperature, the body is fitted with a heater and demister unit supplied by K. L. Automotive Products Ltd. The KL 90 unit operates through two humidifiers, one fitted to the crew compartment and the other to the carrying compartment of the vehicle.
