Sir Richard Way, 59, who leaves his post as chairman of London Transport at the end of the year, has been appointed Principal of King's College, London. As reported previously, Kenneth Robinson, a former Labour Minister of Health, is the next LT chairman.
A. G. Lees has been appointed Ferrymasters' field sales manager for Scotland and will be based at their new offices in Polmadie Avenue, Glasgow.
Graeme Varley, 28, who joined the NBC in 1969 as a senior management trainee, has been appointed area manager (East) of the South Wales Transport Co Ltd.
Robin Orbell, 26, becomes area manager (West). He was
previously Bristol Omnibus Co Ltd district traffic superintendent for Westonsuper-Mare.
Michael J. Holmes, 41, becomes general manager of east Midland Motor Services, and District Traction on October 1. He is at present regional commercial and finance officer, Eastern region, National Bus Company.
Dion Wilson. 36, traffic manager of Ribble Motor Services, has been appointed general manager of West Riding Automobile, and Yorkshire Woollen District Transport.
John M. Thompson, 49, succeeds Herbert Jackson as
assistant engineer (operations) of the Northern Group of Companies on
October 1. Mr Jackson is retiring.
Robert Newsome, 57, assistant secretary of the West Riding Group, becomes company secretary on September 1.
Derek J. Wagon, 34, becomes London Transport economic and operational research manager; Ronald H. W. Brewer, 41, planning development officer; and Derek C. Fisk, 44, market development officer.
J. R. Maydew (BR, Southern section) has been elected chairman of the Sussex section of the Chartered Institute of Transport in succession to R. J. Hough (P.D. Wharfage and Transport Ltd). G. E. Gains (Dor to Dor Carriers Ltd) is senior vicechairman; K. A. Dickie (NBC) is secretary; and C. F. Bish
(Brighton Corporation Transport) is treasurer.
David Shaw has joined Fleet Hire Ltd, part of the Ryland Vehicle Group, as contracts consultant for the Midlands area. He was previously with Hanger Vehicle Rentals Ltd.
Obituary
We record with regret the death of Alexander D'Arcy Miller.
Mr Miller, 58, was a director of Interport Transport Ltd, of Felixstowe. In 1946 he was a partner in Corbett and Miller, tipper operators in Felixstowe. Later he formed his own company, Miller and Son. and until 1971 he was managing director of Peter Miller Haulage Ltd. For 25 years he served on the Suffolk sub-area committee of the RHA; he was a former subarea chairman.
