IN a bid to overcome the problems of staff shortages at its London headquarters at Victoria coach station, National Travel (NBC) Ltd has moved its telephone inquiry office to Ramsgate, Kent. When the Post Office monitored calls to the Victoria 01-730 0202 inquiry number recently it was discovered that 3,000 calls a week were being answered but that a staggering 50,000 received the engaged signal. Even at quiet times with a full staff the Victoria office could only cope with 50 per cent of calls received.
Advice from the Location of Offices Bureau resulted in the choice of Ramsgate where space was available in a local NBC subsidiary's depot. A radio link means that callers to the London number will pay onlyfor a local call though the inquiry is dealt with in Ramsgate. Double the number of lines are available there with a further 50 per cent increase planned for the end of the year.
National Travel expects to use the new service as a marketing unit issuing publicity literature in response to inquiries. It can cope with inquiries for express coaches, tours, holidays and NBC bus service throughout the country.
