Clamp for pipes

A new pipe-clamping system known as the Multi-Clamp has been announced by UCC Filters (Hydraulics) Ltd. which provides for uniform spacing and protection of multiple pipes and facilitates visual planning of installations. It is available for pipe sizes ranging from an overall diameter of -Ain. to a diameter of 2in. Produced in mild steel. Multi-Clamps are supplied with rubber bushes.

Made by: UCC Filters (Hydraulics) Ltd., PO Box 3, Thetford, Norfolk.

Electronic magneto

New design features of the latest BeulahJudson tachometer-driven electronic magneto are claimed to give an increased voltage and other advantages. The transistorized ignition provides a discharge at the plug points in milliamps that increases with engine speed and a considerably higher discharge throughout the speed range compared with conventional ignition systems.

Breaker-point current is reduced from the normal 10amp to about -lamp and point life is therefore greatly increased. The silicon transistors and diodes will operate in temperatures up to or exceeding 400deg F. Easier starting, an improved performance and reduced fuel consumption are also claimed for the magneto in addition to virtual elimination of plug-point wear.

Coiled nylon hose

Hubert H. P. Trist and Co. Ltd. has recently added coiled nylon hose to the company's range of Top-Dog products which is specifically designed for compressed-air-driven nut wrenches. The hose has a ain. bore and an

overall diameter of in.. while its working length is 30ft when fully extended.

Standard compression type fittings are employed and connections are +in./lin. BSP. The end fittings are reinforced by a nylon sleeve and each end has a metal coiled spring which eliminates the possibility of kinking. Identification by colour is facilitated, where different hoses are used for specific purposes, by the availability of the hose in green, brown and grey, Made by: Hubert H. P. Trist and Co. Ltd., Bath Road, Bristol 4. A photo-electric cell is incorporated in a device, produced by Seemark Switches Ltd.. that automatically switches on the side and rear lights of a vehicle when the natural light is reduced below a predetermined value.

The device can easily be fitted to the dashboard of the cab without modification to existing wiring. Called the "Park in the Dark" switch, it is normally employed to switch on the vehicle lights at lighting-up time.

Price: £2 19s 6d. A multi-purpose recirculating ball screw claimed to have a mechanical efficiency above 95 per cent is being introduced to Britain by Barker Machine Tools and Equipment Ltd.

Made by the Nippon Seiko KK company of Tokyo,_ the ball screw is being adopted in many spheres of industry where the application requires such essentials as high mechanical efficiency, low actuating torque, consistent and smooth zero axial play, long durability of accuracy or long life in adverse environments.

Operation of the NSK ball screw is simple. As the screwshaft turns, steel ball-bearings roll between the screw shaft and ball nut, are picked up continuously at the spoon end of the guiding tube and then fed again between screwshaft and ball nut. In other words, the ball bearings recirculate freely and infinitely between screw and nut, acting both as a friction-reducer and load carrying member.

Unlike conventional screws, the NSK ball

screw requires only to of starting torque. In fact, it is claimed that they are so light in operation that a ball nut falls down by its own weight along a vertically held screw.

It is also claimed that consideration for wear and tear adjustment is not necessary, since the frictional torque stays almost unchanged. This is because the amount of axial play in the single ball nut is less than 0.0004in. 10.01mml during its life, while the double nut can maintain a zero axial play condition. The life expectancy of a ball screw can also be accurately determined in relation to each individual application.

The equipment is available in 14 standard sizes of ball screw, ranging from 0.5512in. outside diameter (14mm) to 2.7559in. OD (70mm). Additional special sizes can be obtained on request. The thread lead is available in five standard-sizes ranging from 0,1969in. (5mm) to 0.4724in. (12mm). Maximum threaded length of the screwshaft supplied is 72in. (1,830mm), while the total length including supported portions is up to 125in. (3,180mm).

From Sweden

A range of internal transport motive-units has been introduced to the UK by the Equipment and Engineering Co. Ltd.

The vehicles are manufactured by Kalmar Verkstads AB of Sweden and include tractive units, tractors and load carriers. They are powered by electric, petrol or diesel engines and have a wide range of carrying and towing capacities. Hauling capacities of the tractive units go as high as 50 tons. The vehicles are claimed to be extremely versatile and to have exceptionally high performances.

Wiper switch unit

A redesigned Mk III intermittent windscreen wiper switch unit, which assists the driver in light rain, fog or snow by sweeping the windscreen once at any adjustable interval from 2 to 25sec and automatically returning the wipers to the parked position, is introduced by LF Services. The unit will fit any vehicle which has self-parking windscreen wipers irrespective of the electrical circuit. It is suitable for single speed, multiple speed, or variable speed wipers units.

Extensive field trials and laboratory tests have proved the efficiency and ruggedness of this all-British unit. The unit is unique in that it will operate on past, current and future wiring Systems.

The electronic circuit is a standard, wellproved design. The use of a relay output gives universal operation and eliminates the problem of heat dissipation. Being small, the unit can be fitted into any convenient place behind the dash or on any standard accessory switch bracket.

If the wiring is installed as suggested in the instructions which are provided, the unit can be left working at any setting and overridden by the normal wiper switch. The unit is available for 12V negative at positive earth chassis only and is fully guaranteed for 12 months. Made by: LF Services, South Street North, New Whittington. Chesterfield.

High-pressure washer

With particular emphasis being placed on clean vehicles for MoT testing, a new high-pressure washer—the Raynap Ace high-pressure wash Mark II—is announced by Sunray (Birmingham) Ltd. Its introduction extends the range of this company's products, which cover all types of cleaning and degreasing machinery and chemicals. The unit, which is precision built for compactness and efficiency, has been designed to sell at an economical price, without sacrificing quality or power.

The output of the unit at 500 p.s.i. is ample for removing grease and soiling and will not abrade paintwork: the specially designed nozzle lifts off grime. A metering device is incorporated for dispensing detergents, washn-wax solutions, disinfectants, etc.

The power is supplied by a 1 hp electric motor (1 or 3 phase optional), or a small petrol engine can be fitted at extra cost. The makers recommend the use of this machine also in conjunction with their cleaning and degreasing solvents.

The machine is supplied complete with lance, 30ft high-pressure hose. 40ft water supply hose and 40ft electric cable and has a range of uses applicable to all industries.
