Hauliers put tipper problems to Ministry

• Problems which operators of tipping vehicles are having to face were discussed with Ministry of Transport officials by a delegation from the Sand and Ballast Hauliers and Allied Trades Alliance which went to St. Christopher House in London on Tuesday.
Among the subjects discussed were the fitness of new vehicles on delivery; the effect of the new tyre regulations; the influence of the Transport Bill's proposals upon B-licensed carriers; unlicensed vehicle operation; and the new regulations concerning maximum gross vehicle weights and braking efficiencies.
A statement by the Alliance after the meet
ing said that the discussions had been constructive, and the Ministry officials helpful, but no decisions had been reached on specific points. It is hoped that a further meeting to be held soon will be attended by officials directly concerned with the points raised.
Representatives of the Alliance on Tuesday were: Mr. G. H. Giddings, chairman, Mr. A. D. Genet, chairman of the west metropolitan district, Mr. A. B. Drury, chairman of the north and east metropolitan district, Mr. F. May, representing the south east metropolitan district, and Mr. T. H. Thirkell, secretary to the Alliance.
