• Commercial Vehicle Testing (Maidstone) Ltd. is the name of a recently formed concern of which the five directors all represent commercial vehicle distributing companies, generally in competition with one another, in Maidstone.
CVT Ltd., as its full name implies, has been organized to provide truck operators in the area with centralized facilities for specialist brake testing, washing and weighing in readiness for the introduction of the MoT Plating and Testing Regulations which come into force on October 1.
Directors of the company are Messrs. Bill Chipperton (Rootes Ltd.), Alec Clarke (Anstey-Miles), Geoffrey Fletcher (Drake and Fletcher), Bill Gatward (Gatwards Ltd.), and David Haynes (Haynes Bros.).
The facilities provided by the consortium include a roller brake analyser; a pair of portable weighbridge units with ramps; a high pressure wash and a dynamometer. All these facilities are located at a newly prepared site at Parkwood less than 10 minutes from the premises of any of the participating companies. Any operator of AEC, Austin, Bedford, Dodge, Ford, Commer /Karrier and Leyland vehicles can, as from now, book his vehicles for a pre-test inspection with the relevant distributor.
