GLASGOW Corporation are now insisting that companies taking sites in the city centre must provide internal loading and unloading facilities, as well as car-parking space. An English company who bought a site at the corner of Jamaica Street and Argyle Street tried to have the condition waived, but the city's highways committee have ordered that the new regulations must he complied with.
Despite a protest by local shopkeepers, which was put before the Secretary of State for Scotland, Ayr County Council have succeeded in securing a parking ban in the two main shopping centres of Kilbride—Main Street and Ritch!e Street. The council claim that there are three parking places adjacent to the area.
