Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

111 US and tram fares on 88 stages in

Blackpool were reduced by id. on Monday, when the North .Western Traffic Commissioners granted an application by Blackpool Corporation. Mr. J. Swaffield, deputy town clerk, said the application was necessary to obviate a number of anomalies created when fare revisions were made on October 1 last year.

The reductions sought would give relief on certain stages, . particularly those serving housing estates and shopping centres, and would cost the corporation between £12,000 . and £15,000 a year.

Mr. J. C. Franklin, transport manager, said that the reduction of Id. on 34 fares would have a beneficial effect on children's tickets, for odd halfpennies could be rounded off.

Granting the application, Mr. F. Williamson, chairman. commented: Blackpool, of course, has a-reputation for doing the unusual. It is certainly unusual to ask for a reduction in 88 fares at a time when most other undertakings are trying to put up fares, or are considering making applications."
