THE OWNER OF one of Eastern England's largest truck parks says haulage firms and their drivers should be required to provide the government with evidence of parking in order to remove HGVs from lay-bys.
Orwell Crossing Lorry Park boss Karl Rout was responding to the latest local authority parking study, this time by Northamptonshire County Council, which recommends the creation of at least three truck stops to handle the huge numbers of road freight passing through the county (`Northants seen as lioneypot for truck crimes', CM 9 April).
He claims building truck parks will only solve half the problem as many still choose to pull up overnight in unsecure places in order to pocket their allowance.
• Last week, CM said that truck parking in Dover's new HGV park, run by Priority Freight, costs £10 for 24 hours it actually costs MO for 24 hours.
