Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ACEA E7 performance level Shell is one of the very few oil companies other than Chevron to have its own base oils technology. And it has its own Group II base oil product Shell Rimula RT4 L. According to Shell, it "helps operators to meet the new ACEA E9 heavy-duty oil specification as recently announced by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.'

Shell continues: "The long-awaited specification represents a significant improvement in performance over the existing ACEA E7 performance level, offering considerable improvements in wear, deposit and oxidation control, in conjunction with an emissions after-treatment device friendly 'low-SAPS' (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur) formulation."

Shell launched its first 'E9 Ready' oil, Shell Rimula RT4 L 15W-40, across Europe in April 2008, and says: The stringent ACEA E9 specification has been developed in order to meet the engine and exhaust after-treatment protection requirements of the latest Euro 5 heavy-duty vehicles in Europe and requires improved performance in areas including soot and contaminant control, wear control, piston and crankcase cleanliness and compatibility with exhaust after-treatment systems such as diesel particulate filters and catalyst systems."

"Shell Rimula RT4 L is the only high-volume, heavy-duty engine oil in Europe that uses high-performance Group II base oils," insists Justine Clare, UK and Nordics marketing manager for Shell Lubricants.

Equivalent to Chevron's Ursa Ultra, Shell's Rimula RT4 L uses Group II base oils with its own additive technology. "Rimula RT4 L meets the ACEA E9 specification in full and the more demanding requirements of many leading European truck and heavy-duty engine-makers," says Clare. It is fullyapproved by Cummins, Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and MAN, among others. Like Chevron with its Ursa Ultra, Shell asserts: "Operators of older equipment can also benefit as Rimula RT4 L provides superior wear protection, compared to older generation oils, and helps to prevent damaging deposits and sludge. Its wide range of OEM approvals means it can also be used as a single diesel engine oil solution for fleet operators who run a mixed fleet."
