• Assembly staff at Leyland Daf are being recruited for the first time since 1989 as the truck manufacturer responds to a small increase in demand.
The Leyland, Lancashire plant will take on a total of 60 workers on a three-month contract from May.
The new workers, who will mainly work on the 45-Series production line, represent a 10% increase in the assembly force at the plant. Most of the demand comes from the German market, but a small lift in the UK market has also encouraged the company: "In the UK operators are reaching the point where they can't leave replacement any longer," a Leyland Daf spokesman says.
