Rolls-Royce has shed nee! 1,200 jobs in four years and v tually all its remaining prodc tion workers are on short time.
In a brief statement managil director Peter Vinson cor mented: "The continuir depressed state of the general and industrial sectors of t market has resulted in reduc demand for our engines.
"No growth has been seen the truck markets and a lack clarity in the taxation of ti heavy goods vehicle, the resi of recent taxation changes, h resulted in low order intake.
"The expected increase heavy truck sales as a result the implementation of the Amn rage Report and the increase tc gross weight of 38 tonnes h yet to be seen."
Derek Woodvine, distri official of the Amalgamatr Union of Engineering WorkE said the Government had act as if it was trying to destroy tru manufacturing.
