THE BUTTON has been pressed a Cargofax, the traffic exchange operational.

Earlier this week the 107 member companies linked to the system started entering and extracting information on their viewdata terminals.

Although Cargofax did not manage to interest the anticipated 250 companies, RHA officer Kerry Spencer, organiser of the venture, said it was enough to start the system. "I was disappointed that there were not more, but we saw that there was a good coverage of Britain and quite a few large companies that had enlisted."

Cargofax is currently based at RHA head office in London, although plans have been made to nd the Road Haulage Association's and information system, is now move it to Peterborough once new Eastern District offices have been built.

The system operates as a closed-user group within the Prestel network. Its principal rival is the BRS Prestel Datafreight service.
