Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• EVERY Ford truck mechanic who wants to improve the status of his job gets his chance from now on with the introduction of a new plan, which is believed to be unique, of technical training drawn up by Ford of Britain.

Called the Ford Truck Registered Technician Programme, it is designed to upgrade product knowledge and technical skills in the workshop and enhance the mechanic's professional standing.

Personal "passports" will register efficiency in training for the 2500 mechanics and other service personnel employed in Ford commercial vehicle dealerships throughout Britain. Successful participants. will become known as Ford Truck Registered Technicians. Upon acceptance, they are issued with their own "Technician's Passport", and a "Technician's Certificate", which together form a continuing record of each man's competence and knowledge.

They will be required to take regular examinations by post on a syllabus designed to acquaint them with the latest in product information, service techniques and equipment, and up-to-the-minute developments in Ford commercial vehicle engineering technology.

Not every mechanic will be invited to participate; personnel must be of a suitable standard and should sit an entrance examination. Dealership managers have been advised that those selected should have a minimum qualification of City and Guilds No. 168 standard or equivalent, or have five years' practical experience as skilled men.

Any or all applicants may be asked to take a written test, but once accepted they will be presented with: 1 A Technician Passport.

2 A Technician Certificate, and 3 A Truck Registered Technician lapel and overall badge.

Additionally, each man will receive monthly copies of technician brochures together with a set of examination papers which must be completed at home. Specialized training manuals are received bi-monthly.

Finally, they are eligible for "Technician of the Year" awards.
