• After 40 youths who hired a coach to attend a pop concert in Sunderland behaved rowdily, damaged the vehicle and threatened the driver on the 25-mile outward journey, the driver contacted his employers, Bee-Line Roadways Ltd, Hartlepool, Co Durham. They instructed him to return to base, leaving the youths to walk home, or hire taxis.
The company has reiterated that similar action will be taken in future, if necessary. Bee-Line has also introduced a plan to try to cut vandalism on football specials. The names and addresses of all passengers and the numbers of the seats they occupy are being recorded. In the event of damage to the coach, those likely to have been involved will be traceable.
