• Subsidies to the extent of £98,952 a year have been approved by Kirkcudbright county council for services provided by Western SMT in the county. These have been running at a loss of £100,000 a year, and the council's action will secure their continuation. The services are DumfriesStranraer; Kirkcudbright-Dalbeattie; Dumfries-Kippford; and Glasgow-Castle Douglas.
Intention of the council is to buy time for one year to allow a detailed study to be made of the needs and possibilities. A study will be made of the present bus services, and improvements or possible alternatives will be considered, the county's landward finance committee has indicated.
