• Londoners will have the opportunity to air their views on the future of London Transport at a one-day public meeting in the Queen Elizabeth Hall, South Bank, on Thursday April 22. This will be followed by four evening meetings to be held next month.
The public meetings follow the publication last year of the Greater London Council's Green Paper "The future of London Transport—a paper for discussion" (CM October 23 1970). Half of the Queen Elizabeth Hall's 1100 seats will be reserved for representatives of the many organizations with a special interest in London Transport.
Members of the public are invited to apply for the other 550 tickets to the Director of Public Information, Room 227, County Hall, SEl. The session will commence at 10 am and continue until 4 pm with a break for lunch. The last hour will be devoted to a question and answer session.
Mr Desmond Plummer, leader of the GLC, said last week: "The intention of this Green Paper was to stimulate discussion. We want to listen to public opinion before committing ourselves to a long-term policy for London Transport. My colleagues and I will be on the platform—but mainly to listen. We will explain our thinking and the background to the decisions taken so far. Then we hope the audience will contribute ideas on the major policy issues."
The evening meeting (tickets not required) are: Fairfield Halls, Croydon, May 17; Edmonton Green Main Hall, May 21; Victoria Hall, Ealing, May 24; Woolwich Town Hall, May 25.
