Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The Greater London Council, in conjunction with the London and Home Counties division of the Freight Transport Association, is undertaking a detailed survey of road freight movement within the Greater London area.

The main purpose of the survey is to find out more about the organization and land requirements of own-account freight transport to ensure that in the development of policy sufficient weight is attached to the needs of physical distribution.

In particular it is hoped the survey will suggest ways of aiding the efficiency of

freight movement, within Greater London. in considering land use policies at regional and local level, and in harnessing economic efficiency to environmental and social objectives.

Initially, a detailed questionnaire is being sent to 1500 FTA members with depots in the Greater London area. This will be hacked up by personal interviews with a number of transport managers.
