A part of the . recommendations which is being adopted by the Government is that relating to the colouring of petrol and its division into two types, "commercial" and "private." .

It is recommended that petrol retailers should be required to mark clearly each of their pumps with either one name or the other, and rhould be prohibited from having commercial petrol in a pump marked "private," and from supplying commercial petrol into the tank of a car. Mototists-should acquire petrol only from " private " pumps and should not have commercial petrol in the tank of a car.

Commercial petrol should be made distinctive by the addition of red dye, it is recommended. This measure is to be adopted. Red-dyed petrol could be made clearly distinct from the yellow Pool petrol, which would be used by motorists; whilst there was only a limited range of petrol-soluable dyes and red was most easily obtained. It was also recommended that there should be added to commercial petrol a chemical for identification.

Recommended penalties for offences were suspension of petrol allocations and of driving licenees. Not only would retailers be deprived of supplies, where offences relating to commercial petrol had been committed, but private motorists' supplies might be stopped..
