COMMERCIAL vehicle registrations this year are heading for a slump, according to the latest figures which have been released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
Registrations last month were down 8.2 per cent on August 1983, at 31,681, and for the year to date the market grew only by 2.4 per cent to 190,567. That rise was sustained largely because there was a rise of 5.6 per cent in the first half of the year.
Importers are continuing to take a greater share of the market, having risen this last month from 40.1 per cent to 42.3 per cent, and in the first eight months of this year the climb was from 33.8 to 35.6 per cent.
