ARTHUR (JON) CRABTREE, the Western Licensing Authority since April last year, died last weekend after a long illness.

Mr Crabtree was a solicitor who served for 20 years as town clerk, first at Nuneaton, then Cheltenham, before becoming West Midlands LA in April 1974. During his term in the West Midlands, he established a reputation for having paid close attention to the suitability of operators' bases, even before the 1984 changes became effective. ANDERS ASTROM has joined Scania (Great Britain) as director of finance and assistant general manager. Bob Owen, who was director of finance, has retired, but he will stay on as company secretary and consultant until the end of the year.
Before joining Scania, Anders Astrom spent a number of years with the Swedish special steel company, Fagersta AB. He was managing director of Fagersta do Brazil for four years before moving back to Sweden as head of one of Fagersta's divisions.
