Although this is the age of the whizz-kid, Ted Wall, the new managing director and chief executive, Iran, of National Freight Corporation (International) Ltd, has proved that a man is not washed up at 40. He is a hoary 52.
When he relinquished the posts of managing director of Wincanton Transport Ltd and deputy chairman of the Transport and Engineering Division of Unigate at the end of last year, British milk hauliers lost a staunch champion. As chairman of the Road Haulage Association's Milk Carriers' Group and of the transport committee for the dairy trade, he did a lot for them. The Milk Marketing Board found they had to deal with a tough negotiator on costs and rates who was a chartered accountant as well as a practical haulier.
His departure from VVincanton took everyone by surprise and was greatly regretted by his friends in the R HA.
