Reference the article by Les Oldridge ("Know the Law", August 11).

I am somewhat concerned that this article, whose very layout would give hauliers the impression that it is an authoritative abridgement of current transport law, is both incomplete and outdated.

Not only are three of the Statutory Instruments quoted superseded by the extensive 'revisions promulgated in 1977, but one of the most important primary laws, the Road Safety Act, 1967, has not been mentioned.

In regard to the Statutory Instruments quoted in the article, permit me to summarise as follows: Transport Act 1968 Goods Vehicle Operators' Licences: SI 1976 No 1636 has been superseded by SI 1977 No 1737.

Driver's Hours (Keeping of Records) Regulations: SI 1976 No 1447 has been considerably changed by SI 1977 No 777.

Road Traffic Act 1972 Motor Vehicle (Construction & Use) Regulations: SI 1 973 No 24 has since been altered by almost innumerable S name but a few, there i 1977 Nos 154-790-7,C, 809.

Road Vehicle Ligl Regulations: SI 1971 NI has been superseded I 1977 No 1560,
