AN APPEAL against a Traffic Commissioners' decision by a single-bus touring company has been turned down by the Transport Secretary.

Tartan Tours, run by Mr and Mrs Fergus Smith of Aberdeen, applied last October to run excursions on 21 routes from Aviemore, and objectors to their application, Highland Omnibuses, were criticised by the commissioners when it was revealed they had been operating tours from Aviemore without a licence.

Turning down the application, the commissioners ex pressed "great sympathy' suggested that Mr Smith, conducted his own c should have consulte solicitor or acquainted hir better with procedure bE the hearing. The main groi for his appeal were that hE not been given a full op tunity to put his case.

Following his appea April, at which he was lel represented, it was rec mended that the appea dismissed. In his findings Transport Secretary cluded that Mr Smith had given a fair hearing at October sitting.
