Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

DAF Motors (GB) Ltd will be showing two models new to the UK at the Earls Court Commercial Motor Show. The introduction of these, the FAT 2000 DH 6 x 4 tipper and FA 1400 DD 4 X 2 truck chassis is in keeping with DAF's policy of eventually offering the whole range of DAF products in the UK. With products on show from the light Model 33 van to the 38-ton FT 2600 DKA tractive unit, DAF now offers a range as wide as any manufacturer.

Heavy tipper The FAT 2000 DH is a heavy-duty six-wheeled tipper chassis with a 26-metric-ton gross design weight, which means it will be understressed at the maximum allowable gvw in the UK of 24 tons. Power is provided by a DAF 8.25-litre six-cylinder diesel which develops 163 bhp at 2400 rpm and 4061b ft at 1400 rpm to BS AU 141a: 1971. This engine drives through a 13.7in-diameter single-plate clutch to a ZF AK6-70 /3 gearbox with a GV 70 splitter giving 12 forward speeds.

A heavy-duty, single-spring, trunnion-mounted rear bogie has a gross capacity of over 19 tons. Its axle spread of 4ft 6in will allow it to be plated at 18.5 tons in the UK. The front axle has a capacity of 6 tons. A dual-circuit full air braking system is fitted which employs spring brake units on the rear axles. Drum diameters are 16.5in. diameter for

both front and bogie; axles and lining widths are Sin, and 6in. respectively. Chassis side members have a cross-section of 1 lin. deep by 2.95in. wide by 0.295in. The chassis is flat-topped and the rear crossmember is designed to accept an automatic drawbar coupling.

The cab of the FAT 2000 DH is the same as fitted to the F2200 series and has a high standard of driver comfort. Power-assisted steering, with a ratio of 22.7 : 1, is standard, and turning circle is approximately 56ft. Other standard equipment includes twin fuel tanks of 88 gallons total capacity and an engine exhaust brake. Optional equipment includes various types of pto and locking axle differentials.

Four wheelbases

The F 1400 series was introduced at the Amsterdam show earlier this year (CM March 3) but will be exhibited for the first time in Britain at Earls Court. It is an 11.5-ton-gvw design and is available in four wheelbases of 10ft 10in., 12ft 8in., 14ft 9in. and 17ft lin. Typical kerb weight is 3.75 tons so operators will get a good payload with all these models.

The FA 1400 truck is fitted with the DAF DD575 six-cylinder, 5.75-litre diesel engine which develops 110 bhp (DIN) at 2400 rpm and 2601b ft torque at 1500 rpm. The engine is matched to a 13in.-diameter hydraulic clutch and a ZF AK 5-35/2 five-speed constant-mesh gearbox.

An all-synchromesh five-speed gearbox is available as an option, so also are a two-speed rear axle, rear dampers and power steering. Dampers are standard fittings on the front axle. The cam and lever steering gear has a ratio of 26.3 : 1 and the turning circle of the longest model, which has a wheelbase of 17ft lin., is about 65ft.

Fail-safe

Front and rear brakes are 15.5in. in diameter with 5in.-wide linings; actuation is by dual air-hydraulic circuits. A single spring actuator, mounted on a chassis side-member, provides a fail-safe parking brake.

Chassis side-members are 9in. deep by 2.95in. wide by 0.236in. thick.

The cab is a full three-seater and its features include quarter lights with burglar-proof control knobs, coat hooks, a deep container behind the driver's scat, a.toolbag, fitted trays on the facia and a lockable compartment. The cab incorporates the same easy tilting mechanism as the bigger vehicles.

Also on display at Earls Court will be a 38-ton DAF FT 2600 DKA 4 'X 2 tractive unit with a 10ft 2in. wheelbase; an FT 2200 DU 4 x 2 tractive unit plated at 36 tons gcw; and a DAF 33 light van with automatic transmission.
