Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

concerning an eight-wheeled artic with a carrying capacity of 16 tons, which was off the road for approximately 11 weeks. What is a fair basis on which to calculate the loss?

AAs shown in the current edition of the

COMMERCIAL MOTOR Tables of Operating Costs, the standing cost per week for a 16-ton artic is reckoned at £34 19s 6d. This includes the basic minimum wage of £14 113s 3d for the driver on the assumption that profitable alternative work cannot be found for him during the 11 weeks.

Likewise it is assumed that all other items of standing cost would continue to have to be met as the period involved would not justify de-licensing or other forms of rebate.

In addition to standing cost which would still have to be met, there would be loss of profit while the vehicle is off the road. It is common practice to estimate this loss on the basis of an average profit over a corresponding preceding period.
