byASHLEY TAYLOR WAILING SIRENS have been fitted to some Liverpool Corporation buses in an attempt to "scare off" the hooligan element (CM, August 25). And Mr. S. A. Moffatt, Traffic manager, told me this week that late-night attacks on crews seem to have "subsided".
At Huddersfield platform staff have just ended the four-week ban on operation after 9.30 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Mr. J. Mcguire, Huddersfield Corporation traffic manager, said that during that time there had been one incident involving violence but at least one member of the public had co-operated with the crews.
Two years ago attacks at West Hartlepool resulted in crews refusing to man services after 9 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. A similar incident attracted attention three weeks back but, observed Mr. G G Fernley, deputy general manager, the department enjoyed close co-operation with the local police and there had been no repetition.
