Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

r RS. TRANSPORT, LTD., of Duke

Street, Glasgow, were partially successful in an application for two vehicles of 8 tons at Glasgow last Friday. Mr: R. Mackenzie, for C.R.S., said they had expanded tremendously with the growth of their major customer, Remington-Rand, Ltd., in Glasgow, They had doubled their turnover in the past year and had increased hiring by some three times.

They had had the use of a fleet of McCann and McKay, Ltd., vehicles on this work until June of this year. Then the sub-contractors had been acquired by Smith of Maddiston, Ltd., who indicated that these vehicles would not he available for this long-distance work. The applicants had been forced to use South-based vehicles on a return-load basis but that was not a satisfactory system where exports were concerned. An inquiry by Mr. Brown, for B.R and B.R.S., as to the sudden rise in earnings with the same number of vehicles was explained in the fact that the existing fleet was now being overworked and could not continue on a seven-day week basis. Employees were also objecting since a point was reached where even extra money would not compensate for a system of Sunday maintenance.

A Remington-Rand witness gave evidence that they were using the Condor service of B.R. and found it good. But they had not the same confidence in B.R.S. and would not like to return to them after the experiences of some years ago. The' expansion at Glasgow would mean more work for B.R.S. as well as for C.R.S. Transport.

Mr. W. F. Quin ruled that there was a case for one vehicle, which he granted.
