Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MHE latest addition to the range of parc-elcars is the Croft, which, although it is designed much on Continental lines, is manufactured at the works of Crofts (Engineers), Ltd., Thornbury, Bradford.

Two load capacities are available, one being 3-5 cwt. (type R) and the other 7-10 cwt. (type C). Model It has two-stroke 300 c.c. engine, which is claimed to develop 6 b.h.p., whilst type C is equipped with a two-stroke 475 c.c. 9 b.h.p. power unit.

In most respects the two patterns are similar. A distinctly novel feature is the provision of steam cooling for the engine, for up to the present this method has been used only on special high-speed aircraft and some American racing cars. It is probably the first time that it has been employed in connection with an ordinary production vehicle, particularly one of low price. The gearbox provides three forward speeds and a reverse, and the gears are selected by means of a ball-mounted lever. The drive is transmitted through a foot-operated plate clutch and roller chain to the rear wheel. All the wheels carry internal-expanding brakes, which are simultaneously operated by applying a pedal, In addition, there is a hand brake, with ratchet, taking effect on the rear wheel.

Geared steering, incorporating a tensioned roller chain and pinion, is employed, there being a conveniently placed wheel for the driver. The patent suspension system is another interesting feature, each wheel being independently sprung, whilst self-lubricating shock absorbers are fitted at the front.

The wheels are of the interchangeable disc type. The petroil system of engine lubrication is used, a pint of oil being mixed with 2i gallons of petrol. The chassis and bearings are arranged for grease-gun lubrication. Ignition is effected by coil and the lighting set corn

prises two headlamps, with dimmers, and a tail lamp.

The 3-5-cwt. model costs from £6.9 10s. to 176, according to the body style, whilst the price of the larger type varies between £75 and £82. A wide range of standard bodywork is available, whilst special coachwork can . be constructed to meet customers' needs.

As regards road performance both models are claimed to be capable of 30-35 m.p.h. The R type is said to travel 40-45 miles on a gallon of petrol, the corresponding figure for the C model being 35-40. The annual tax is £4.
